• Come to know the nature of thyroid hormone (2 forms), how it is stimulated and its general effects in the body
• Be able to explain the effects of overactivity and underactivity of the thyroid gland in different age groups.
• Be able to explain the terms goiter and exophthalmos
• Be able to describe the bone-sparing effects of Calcitonin realeased from parafollicular cells
Parathyroid gland and Parathyroid hormone
• Become familiar with the location and structure of parathyroid glands.
• Understand the role of parathyroid hormone and its effects on target organs.
• Be able to explain the main physiological effects of hyper- and hypo-parathyroidism
