Musical Styles (MUS 1210)
Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 at 8pm in Manhattan, New York. In the Stern Auditorium
/Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall. I had the honor to see New York Choral Society and
Orchestra. This group featuring David Hayes who is not also the Music Director but as
well the Conductor of this Orchestra with an unusually broad range of repertory,
spanning the symphonic, oratorio/choral and operatic genres. Trained as a violinist and
violist, Mr. Hayes received his Bachelor of Music in musicology from the University of
Hartford and a diploma in Orchestral Conducting from the Curtis Institute of Music.
Sarah Shafer, Soprano, A recent graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, Ms. Shafer’s
credits for Curtis Opera Theatre include over 20 productions and a variety of roles.
Abigail Fischer, Soprano, born in Norwich, Vermont to chamber musician parents who
now teach at Rice University in Houston, Texas. James Reese, Tenor, James is a
graduate of Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, where he studied
with Kurt R. Hansen, Alan Darling, and Donald Nally. He is a recent graduate of
Yale University’s Institute of Sacred Music, where he studied with James Taylor as
part of the Yale Voxtet. Lee Poulis, Baritone, He is an alumnus of Washington
National Opera’s Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program, San Francisco Opera’s Merola
Program, Music Academy of the West, and Harvard University. They performed J.S.
Bach’s B Minor Mass. They used various of instruments as Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass,
Oboe & Oboe D’amore, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet, Timpani and Organ.
