Walden University – COUN 6726 – Collaborating on a Family Genogram

Families have unique histories, values, characters, and rules. Genograms can provide counselors pertinent background information about a family system. Family systems are beautiful and also complicated. However, the information about families can provide insight with an overview and a foundation for clinicians to learn to work with and evaluate family systems. In this paper, I will show a genogram of a close friend and her family. The information in the genogram will provide some comprehensive details about the system approach and how we think about families, presenting problems, and solutions. The paper will also give context to both internal and external influences on a family.
